The presentation was on the topic: Scientific seminar of Managing Skin Infections was delivered by Prof. Hector Addo an Associate professor of the University of Ghana, school of Medicine and Dentistry
He took delegates through common skin infections and alleges and certain organism (Bacteria and Fungi) that causes the infections and antibiotics to use for such treatments. He warned against the use of Penicillin in treatment of sores since it can cause the body system to develop sensitivity and resistance against the use of certain anti biotics and drugs and therefore called for it ban. He said topical anti biotic choice must be selectively used in managing suspected infections.
He bemoan poor conditions such as congestion, use of single bed for more than one patient in some of the country’s health centres which helps to increase the spread of certain skin infections. “Because of our humid condition I recommend secondary school students to be asked to wear sandals to solve athlete foot infection instead of wearing camboo like was done in the past at the Achimota School,”
